2024 Ram 3500 Dually Build Highlight

Build Summary

For the 2024 year model, Ram gave a little bit of a refresh to this 5th gen truck. They made the hood a little more interesting with these side vents, as well as a hood scoop. The rest of the truck went largely unchanged so the 2019+ accessories and customizations still fit the 2024.

We put this truck up 3” on the Cognito lift kit. For the best results in regards to the ride quality of the truck, I do recommend a leveling kit that will replace the front coils. This will allow the front suspension to cycle properly. And in the case of the Fox shocks, it will allow the kit manufacturer to re-valve the shocks to the coils. As a bonus, this kit also includes the track bar which is usually one of the first factory suspension parts to fail on these Ram HD trucks.

The shocks are the Fox Shocks set-up. They are the 2.0” internal diameter shock. The Cognito kit will allow the shocks to be upgraded to a remote reservoir, but the customer opted for just the traditional shock setup.

These wheels are the DDC 22” Mesh wheel. They are forged which means the wheel is light weight in comparison to the cast counterparts. It also means these wheels balance out better because they are not subjected to the same flaws that cast wheels can develop in manufacturing.

Dually Designs Co. or DDC are a specialty wheel manufacturer that will create the look of a 10 lug wheel without the need for adapters on these 1-ton 8-lug trucks. They also have selections in the 10-lug 450 and above trucks.. Since dually trucks are their specialty, they have some great fitments for all builds and will get you the correct stance to clear the 12.50 section tires as well as 13.50! They really take a lot of the guesswork out of these dually fitments.

The tires are one of my favorites for winter in Colorado. They are the 35x12.50R22 Mickey Thompson Baja Boss AT. These tires have a 3peak mountain snowflake rating on all tires that are 12.50 wide and below. They also have a great mileage warranty. You may look at these stats and think they would look like a regular passenger car tire, but they definitely have the sidewalls and aggressive tread that you would desire as a builder.

I consistently go on this “back in my day” rant with my customers that there were so few all terrain tires available that fit our needs when we first started this shop in 2018. If you wanted aggressive looks, it would be loud on the road and terrible in snow. But the industry has really caught up with giving us the aggressive looks but the road manners and handling that we hoped to get in our lifted daily drivers. These tires are no slouch off road either.

Now, with this added height, this customer needed to get in and out of the truck, but wanted to maintain the clean lines that this level offered. I think you know what I am hinting at; the AMP Research Power Steps. These are first on pretty much any builder’s shopping list when it comes to power steps. They own the market on this “plug-and-play” style of retractable running board. They are not quite as easy as plug and play, but when it comes to the competition, these are much easier to install with their OBD-II interface and do not require any fooling around with door magnets.
