lIFTED 2025 sUBARU oUTBACK wILDERNESS

The Ultimate Guide to a 2025 Outback Light Overland Build

Build Summary

We got a ton of traction on the original 2022 Subaru Outback Wilderness Lift Kit that we did; and this one was even bigger! This vehicle came to us from New Mexico. The client had ordered a 2025 Subaru Outback Wilderness, saw our original video, and wanted to make a similar light overland build.

Subaru threw a ton of improvements at this already capable car. As you will recall, the Wilderness Package comes with a bit of a lift above the standard Outback, and all sorts of off-road goodies. One (albeit two) of those goodies are the capable LED fog lights. Subaru has also replaced the dog of a flat 6 with a turbo flat 4. This 2.4L turbo motor is far more torquey than the 3.6L. This is the same block they had in their flat four with some boost thrown at it. I was never wanting for power as I took this wagon around to do some before photos.

We started off with the 2” Ironman 4x4 Lift Kit. We upgraded the springs to the medium duty as this customer may add a roof top tent. Even with this vehicle mostly unloaded, the medium duty springs did not transfer much energy into the cabin. It still just drove like an SUV. If you are installing this at home, I would recommend ordering camber adjusters from your local auto parts store. Some lifted Subarus will come out with major positive camber and it is best to have that extra adjustment available.

These wheels are the 17x8 Method 502 Standard in bronze. These are a +38 offset which tucks the wheels and tires way underneath the vehicle. We used the 15mm Perrin spacers to bump those wheels and tires out near flush with the fenders. Perrin is a great spacer company as they are hub and wheel centric. They also come with longer lug studs to ensure you get the most thread possible. If you are looking to achieve this stance without the use of spacers, an 8 wide with a +20 to +25 offset will bring that stance just about perfect.

It seems like new all terrain and mud terrain tire offerings are consistently being added to these popular light overland tire sizes. We used the 245/65R17 Toyo Open Country ATIII. This is one of my favorite all terrain tires because of how well they handle snow and ice. This tire size and fitment will require quite a bit of plastic trimming.

We then added tons of accessories for camping and overlanding. We wanted to add more lighting to the front. We used the Anderson Design Fabrications Bumper Bar without the wings as our mounting point. We added Diode Dynamics SS5 Sport lights that come in a 3x3 pattern. The center two lights are spots, while the ends are flood lights. We wanted to maximize the light in both zones to ensure safe travels at night on the darkest of trails. We then added the GoRhino D-Rings.

Up top, we added the Prinsu Rack with the standard fairing. A light bar can be added up there with the other fairing offering, but we decided on the standard fairing to ensure no whistling from the light bar at highway speeds. This rack replaces the factory Subaru rails. We put the spare tire up there and secured it with the GoRhino Y- Style tire strap.

The customer also wanted some options to secure gear on the inside of the car. We added the Anderson Design Fabrications Molle Panels inside the vehicle and added the Molle Shelf. Molle panels are used a ton in military applications as they provide tons of quick secure points for ratchet straps and bungees. They have also been used in the fast growing Overland market for the same reason.

That has so far been our blueprint for these Outback Wilderness builds. A build like this will come out looking similar if you are building a standard non-Wilderness Outback. These kits and parts fit both options. For additional information or for a Subaru Light Overland build of your very own, please fill out the form below or call us at 719-574-1700
